Insurance Information
Let us take the guess-work out of navigating your insurance.
Scroll down and we’ll walk you through which providers we accept and how to ensure your consultations are approved.
Insurance Accepted
Under the Affordable Care Act, preventive health care, including comprehensive lactation support and counseling by a trained provider, is covered. Depending on your plan, there may be co-insurance or cost-sharing.
At this time, the San Diego Breastfeeding Center accepts and bills for the following insurances:
Aetna PPO/POS
Tricare West
UCSD Managed Care HMO (**Pending Insurance Verification)
Cigna PPO (**Pending Insurance Verification)
United Healthcare PPO (**Pending Insurance Verification)
Please note that all HMO plans require a referral from your primary care provider.
How it Works
Step One:
Make an appointment with your primary care provider and obtain a referral to the San Diego Breastfeeding Center for Lactation Consultant services.
Your physician can access referral forms here: <<link>>
Step Two:
Book your consultation at SDBFC.
If you are with one of the insurance companies listed above, SDBFC will direct-bill your insurance.
Step Three:
For those with PPOs with insurance carriers not listed above, you will have to pay up front at the time of your visit and your lactation consultant will give you forms to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
For those with HMOs (other than UCSD Managed Care), you will receive an invoice and forms at the time of your appointment to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
