Ruth Hale

(SHE/HER) IBCLC, CD

Ruth completed her training to become an IBCLC at the University of California, San Diego, in 2021. Ruth was born and raised in San Diego and lives with her husband of 12 years, their two kiddos, and two pups. She has a background in child development and is also a certified doula. She loves learning about all stages of pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

Ruth's Story:

My daughter was my inspiration to become a lactation consultant. I gave birth to her in Yokosuka, Japan, and while the nurses were able to help me with latching, I still found myself with so many questions. From the witching hour to growth spurts, there are many times when I questioned whether what I was experiencing was normal. There were no outpatient lactation consults or support groups, so I found my answers and community through the resource KellyMom. Before we moved back to San Diego, I learned what an IBCLC was, and it was fate that one of the only lactation programs was in San Diego. I spent the next few years going to school while raising my daughter and son. During this time, I started hosting the San Diego Breastfeeding Lactation Support Group and became a birth and postpartum doula. Once I became an IBCLC, I spent the next few years supporting families in their homes and, virtually, parents all over the world.

The San Diego Breastfeeding Center has been so integral to the lactation community in San Diego through community awareness, direct family support, and collaboration with other organizations to increase lactation accessibility. I am grateful to be a part of this team and look forward to supporting families in meeting their feeding goals.
